Is Red a Christian Band?
Is Red a Christian band?
They do not hide the fact in interviews, that's for sure. Here is some comments made by Red guitar player Anthony Armstrong in an interview with Tracy Darlington.
"At the end of the day we're Christians before anything. That's exactly the reason we're doing what we're doing. We've been saved by grace, this is what it's done for us, and we believe that it can do the same for you."
"We always like to call ourselves a Christian band because that’s what we are. If they ask us if we’re a Christian band, we tell them yes. And if they ask us why, we tell them why."
Red got their start on Essential Records, a Christian record label, and has been on numerous Christian compilations. They have been nominated for the Best Rock Gospel Album Grammy award and have been nominated for Dove, a Christian awards show, awards as well. Although it may not always seem their lyrics reflect a Christian band, they sometimes hit the darker side of being a Christian. The darker side? Yes, there is sin and we are all sinners and so are they. They don't get really detailed or use inappropriate language but they have had their share of struggles. But in the end they focus on the fact that they are, REDeemed, and saved by Jesus Christ.
Lyrics pointing to Red being a Christian band
"We are undying, we are forever. We won't hide our faces from the light. Eliminate the space between us, It's who we are, We are forever" Album – Until We Have Faces, Song – Who We Are
"Then I see your face. I know I'm finally yours. I find everything I thought I lost before. You call my name, I come to you in pieces. So you can make me whole" Album – End Of Silence, Song – Pieces
So no, they never say "God or Jesus" but you can fill in the blanks yourself.
